Chicken Zest Burger

A Chicken Zest Burger (or Zesty Chicken Burger) is a fresh, flavorful twist on a classic chicken burger. It pairs a juicy chicken fillet (crispy fried or flame-grilled) with a citrusy, garlic-herb zesty sauce or a zest-infused marinade.

Ingredients

1. Chicken Marinade (Fried or Grilled)

  • Chicken Breast Fillets: 2 pieces (pounded to even thickness)

  • Lemon Zest: 1 tsp (freshly grated)

  • Lemon Juice: 1½ tbsp

  • Garlic Powder: 1 tsp

  • Crushed Black Pepper: 1 tsp

  • Red Chili Flakes / Paprika: 1 tsp

  • Mustard Paste: ½ tsp

  • Salt: To taste

2. Zesty Mayo Burger Sauce

  • Mayonnaise: ½ cup

  • Lemon Zest: 1 tsp

  • Lemon Juice: 1 tsp

  • Garlic (Minced): ½ tsp (or garlic powder)

  • Fresh Herbs: 1 tbsp finely chopped parsley, cilantro, or dill

  • Black Pepper & Salt: A pinch of each

  • Sriracha / Chili Sauce: 1 tsp (optional, for a spicy-zesty kick)

3. Crispy Coating (For Fried Style)

  • All-Purpose Flour (Maida): 1 cup

  • Cornstarch: 2 tbsp

  • Chili Powder & Garlic Powder: ½ tsp each

  • Chilled Ice Water: For double dipping

4. Assembling

  • Burger Buns: Brioche or sesame buns (toasted)

  • Veggies: Iceberg lettuce, tomato slices, pickled jalapenos, or red onion rings

  • Cheddar Cheese Slice: 1 per burger

Step-by-Step Recipe

1.Marinate the Chicken:Marinate for 30 minutes.

Mix lemon zest, lemon juice, garlic powder, black pepper, chili flakes, mustard paste, and salt in a bowl. Coat the chicken fillets thoroughly and let them rest.

2.Make the Zesty Mayo Sauce:Whisk until smooth.

In a small bowl, whisk mayonnaise with fresh lemon zest, lemon juice, minced garlic, black pepper, chopped herbs, and optional sriracha. Cover and chill in the fridge.

3.Cook the Chicken Fillets:Crispy Fried or Flame Grilled.
  • For Crispy Fried: Dredge marinated fillet in seasoned flour, dip briefly into chilled ice water, then coat in flour again (press firmly for extra flakes). Deep-fry in medium-hot oil for 6–8 minutes until golden and crisp.

  • For Grilled: Sear on a hot grill pan with a little oil for 4–5 minutes per side until internal temperature reaches cooked throughness.

4.Toast Buns & Melt Cheese:Melt while chicken is hot.

Lightly butter burger buns and toast on a skillet until golden. Place a cheese slice over the hot chicken fillet so it melts slightly.

5.Assemble the Burger:Build the layers.

Spread a generous spoonful of zesty mayo on both toasted bun halves. Place fresh lettuce and tomato slices on the bottom bun. Add the hot chicken fillet with melted cheese, top with jalapenos/pickles, and close with the top bun.
